Immediately after World War Two Madsen resumed designing automatic weapons and the M50 used the production techniques pioneered by the Sten and Grease Gun. A unique feature is the construction of the weapon body. The entire receiver is produced in two halves held together by a large barrel nut. When this nut is undone the short barrel is removed and the two halves of the body open up to expose the workings.
