This air cooled belt fed 7.62 mm Goryunov designed machine gun was introduced in 1943 to replace the earlier PM1910 Maxim. An excellent all climate weapon, which could be mounted on similar carriage as the PM10. The early SG43 had a smooth barrel and the cocking handle was between spade grips under rear of gun. Later a right side cocking handle, flanged barrel, and dust covers over the belt ports were introduced as the SG43M or SGM models, however some all, or none of these features appear on various weapons (See FTA 263).
