Developed to fire the new lower-powered Kurz (short) 7.92 mm round the Stg 44 Assault Rifle was an excellent weapon. Capable of single shot or fully automatic fire, most went to fight the Russians on the Eastern front. After the war large numbers were used in Arab Israeli conflicts - Berlin Wall and Hungarian uprising. The Russian AK 47 was influenced by this design.
