Designed by John C Garand this self-loading rifle was introduced into service with US forces in 1936. Prior to this the US army used the Bolt Action Springfield Rifle Model 1903. The Garand was the best self-loading rifle available to allied troops and served with distinction in World War Two, Korea and the early years of the war in Vietnam. The rifle was loaded by 8 round clips (single round loading not available). Gas operated.
