An early Soviet self loading rifle in 7.62 mm with a 10 round detachable box magazine. Usually only issued to NCO’s and Marksmen. Some examples including this one were manufactured capable of fully automatic fire. Light and easy to handle, well balanced and accurate the SVT 40 influenced the design of the German MP43/44 and ultimately the famous AK Range of Soviet rifles. The rifle on display is the rare fully automatic AVT40 version.
