Biography:

1. Elias Wolstenholme, a single man aged 25, had been employed on a temporary basis as a Labourer for four months since the 11th June 1825, and was to be discharged at the end of the month. He was paid 2/2d per day ( WO54/550 dated the 1st October 1825). 2. WO54/554 dated the 1st October 1826, however, recorded that he was still employed as a Labourer. 3. WO54/558 dated 1st April 1827, recorded that at that date Elias had nearly 2 years' service as a Labourer, and that he was then nearly 28 years of age. He was still unmarried, and his annual rate of pay remained the same, i.e., £33.18.2d or 2/2d per day. He had not been brought up to any trade. 4. WO54/558 dated the 1st October 1827 confirmed the information given in the previous notes, with the exception that he had served over 2 years and was then aged 28. 5. Return dated the 1st April 1828 (WO54/562) updated the same basic information as in the previous notes.
