1 Thomas Want was employed as a Millman on the 13th February 1814, with a rate of pay of 3/-d per day and an additional 6d per night when on duty (Supply 5/230). 2. WO54/516 dated February 1816 recorded that Thomas was first employed by the Engineers' Department on the 15th April 1815 as a Labourer earning 2/8d per day, and that he was a 21-year-old bachelor living in Waltham Abbey.
