Biography:
1. Richard Stevens, Labourer, was set to work by Daniel Cornish in October 1787 at 9/-d per week, possibly renovating the Mills following their purchase by the Government from Mr Walton (Winters' Centenary Memorial, p.28).
2. Thereafter, he was employed as a Millman "...having lately worked for Mr Walton." (Winters, op.cit. p.31)
3. On the 24th January 1789, Richard was judged to be unfit for service, and a letter from J. Wright and J. Clowdesly to Major Congreve dated the 12th September 1789, stated that they had given notice to Richard Stevens, who was not to be employed after the 20th of that month (WASC 1392).
