Biography:
1. Robert Steel was first employed by the Board as a casual Millwright in the Engineers' Department on the 19th February 1812. He was a 35-year-old married man living in Waltham Abbey with 3 unmarried children, and was paid 5/8d per day (WO54/516).
2. His details were updated in WO54/520 dated the 20th February 1817, where his pay was recorded as only 5/2d per day.
