Biography:
1. Barnard Presland was employed as a Punt Man earning 2/-d per day, and in addition, he was allowed to watch in turn (Supply 5/227 dated the 23rd August 1808).
2. On the 8th April 1809, a fatal fight broke out in the Watch House between Salt Petre Millmen Barnard Presland and Noah Sayer, when the former struck the latter and killed him. Among those who witnessed the fight were John Horrod and James Rowley (who later became a Sausage-Maker in Highbridge Street). Sayer left a widow, Ann. Presland was discharged from the Mills, but it is not known what punishment he received for killing Sayer (Winters, pp.67/68)
